What Is the Academy Insider T.I.P.S. Football Assessment?

T.I.P.S. is the framework behind every Academy Insider scouting assessment.

Technique Control, passing, receiving, ball-carrying and position-specific skills in match situations.

Insight Game understanding: scanning, positioning, decision-making and tactical awareness.

Personality Observable football behaviours only — communication, reaction to mistakes, effort without the ball and willingness to take responsibility. It is never a psychological diagnosis.

Speed Acceleration, top speed, agility, speed of thought and speed with and without the ball.

How scoring works Each criterion is graded 1–5 (20 to 100 points). A category score averages the observed grades, and the match score averages the four categories, giving an Insider Score out of 100.

Not Observed If something did not happen in the match, it is marked N/O and left out of the average. A player is not penalised for situations that never arose. Where too little was seen, the report says so rather than guessing.

What the score is — and is not The Insider Score reflects the performance observed in that match. It is not a prediction of future level or a guarantee of any opportunity.
