Player Development

How Often Should a Young Footballer Be Reassessed?

A single assessment is a snapshot. Development happens over months, so it makes sense to look again.

Start with a baseline An initial live assessment records how a player performed in a real match and sets clear priorities.

Give the plan time Players need several weeks of focused practice before changes show up consistently in matches. Reassessing too soon tends to measure noise.

Follow-up observation A follow-up live assessment looks specifically at the agreed priorities. Many families find an interval of roughly two to three months works well, although every player is different.

One game does not define a player Weather, opposition and minutes all vary. That is why trends matter more than single scores.

Track progress Recording scores and notes over time helps players see improvement and adjust their plan. Read how to improve between matches and see our live scouting options.
