How can talented players based overseas explore opportunities in England?
Start by understanding your current level, your eligibility and the environment that will help you develop. A move to England should be a considered football and education decision, not a gamble based on promises of a professional trial.
My international football work began in Southeast Asia, including Singapore in 2000–01, where I was involved in playing, management, football development and coaching within independent schools. Since 2012 I've worked across Norway, Sweden and Denmark, including as manager of Lillehammer FK in 2018–19. I've also run Scandinavian scouting and football programmes bringing players to the UK.
That international experience has taught me something simple: talent exists everywhere, but players develop within very different football structures.
UAE and Singapore: international families, international choices
Families in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Singapore often have multiple nationalities, school systems and future plans to consider. Some players may hold British passports; others may need a UK study route or may be better served by remaining in their home environment while receiving independent scouting feedback.
Before recommending anything, I want to understand the player's age, school stage, current competition level and the family's priorities. An attractive football opportunity is not the right opportunity if the academic or family circumstances don't work.
Scandinavia: development, exposure and realistic benchmarking
My work in Norway and across Scandinavia has included first-team management, recruitment and programmes connecting players with UK football. I've seen the value of players testing themselves in unfamiliar environments. For some, a UK visit provides an excellent developmental benchmark. For others, further progress in their current club may be the smarter next step.
Three ways to begin
Video Scouting: Send suitable match footage for a structured, independent assessment from anywhere in the world.
Education and football guidance: Explore UK independent schools, post-16 programmes, university routes and gap-year options matched to your budget and ability.
Live assessment and development opportunities: We can discuss UK assessments and, where feasible, overseas live scouting by individual quotation. We are also gauging interest in a proposed 2027 UK international camp.
What I will not promise
I won't tell a player that a British passport guarantees registration, that attending a school secures a club contract, or that one highlight reel will persuade a Premier League academy. My job is to offer an informed, honest assessment and explain the opportunities that are genuinely suitable.
